I think there are two types of teachers. Those who are not too crazy about their jobs anymore, and those who don't save any time for themselves. Most teachers fall into that second category.
Teaching can be all encompassing.
Late night lesson planning and grading papers can turn into early mornings at the copy machine and weekends spent organizing the classroom. There is always more to do because teaching can never be fully perfected, yet a lot of perfectionists choose it as a profession! It can turn into this endless cycle of outdoing your last big success, and quite frankly it is exhausting.
In addition to learning the fine art of gifting yourself valuable free time and balancing an impossible work load, new teachers need to remember to be kind to themselves. With harsh evaluation systems judging every movement we make it can be easy to talk our self esteems down, and to truly believe that we are never good *enough*.
Self loathing thoughts will never turn into positive ones that make us feel good, so ask yourself the question: have I been nice to myself today? Did I make time for me? Did I appreciate me? If you can't appreciate yourself, then how will others appreciate you?
It's been a long Monday.
Good night friends.
