Reading: Readicide by Kelly Gallagher! I'm doing a collaborative book study with Focused on Fifth. I'm learning so much, and I'm already writing reading plans for next school year. The book has me jazzed!
I'm also reading Transformational Literacy: Making The Common Core Shift With Work That Matters by Berger, Woodfin, Plaut, and Dobbertin. My assistant superintendent recommended this as a summer reading book for us. It's chalked full of how to really build the perfect reading classroom. I love how a lot of the suggestions go hand in hand with Readicide. It's more of a formal academic text, but so far I'm thoroughly impressed. Here's a big idea I learned from the book last night:
Craft a 4 T Unit Plan:
Topic: Choose a compelling topic that brings content to life. I was thinking for my own classroom, I usually do a 13 colonies unit followed up with a "travel to my colony fair". Using the author's suggestion, I could make this a little more interesting for students by focusing more on colony life rather than just basic colony information.
Targets: Craft learning targets that students need to know and can do.
Task: Create a culminating product or performance task, so the students can demonstrate a way to meaningfully apply the targets.
Text: Choose a WIDE variety of texts that students can independently gather information from and CLOSE read. This is where I need to change my style up a bit and choose more CLOSE reading for my students.
I also read a chapter last night on choosing high quality academic text for students. I will share this information in my blog Tuesday about Chapter 4 of Readicide.
Doing: Printing out my notes for my Teachers Pay Teachers convention this week. I'm taking the following classes:

Pre thoughts: I am most excited to hear Rachel Lynette speak, and I'm sort of sad I didn't sign up for the blogging basics class because the hand out looks so awesome!!

What do you think? Any better?
I was hoping to change all my covers before the convention, but it takes me about 20 minutes per cover, so ack! I don't know if I can finish or not!
Watching: The Amy Schumer Show- Raunchy but refreshing in some ways. I also watched a movie on Netflix called Blue Ruin. It was interesting, but extremely violent and too gross for me to watch in some parts.
Loving: My husband and my step daughter who's hear on summer break. It's nice hearing the laughs and screams of a child in the house again. :)
